My New Book & Call for Submissions

Well I can’t quite believe that today is finally here, but I am thrilled to announce details of my new book which is to be published in Spring 2015. Those of you that have followed my journey for a while will know that I’ve always wanted to write a book on branding for small businesses. It’s true that there are no shortage of books on how to brand your small business, but this one is going to be very different, very different indeed.


I can’t tell you too much about the detail of the book just yet, I’ve been advised to keep as much as possible under wraps until early in the new year but trust me, you’re going to love it! I’m working with an incredible editor, Jo Copestick, who I’m really excited about working with. Jo has edited and written some really beautiful illustrated books and it’s an honour and a privilege to be working along someone so proficient at what she does.

Call for Submissions


You’ll know from reading this blog that I love to celebrate inspirational brand styling projects and that’s where I need your help. I’m looking for submissions for the following:

  1. Brand identity design
  2. Logo designs
  3. Styled up brand identities
  4. Work in progress (lifestyle shots)
  5. Inspirational workspaces

Engaging and distinctive brand board for Jackson Photography by the lovely Braizen.

I’m looking for distinctive and inspirational brand boards for creative small businesses. You may be a brand stylist, a graphic designer or simply a creative who has DIY’d their branding. If it’s jaw droopingly gorgeous I want to see it! Please put all of your brand elements onto one page, I’ll firm up the formatting details in time but for now I’d just like to see an overview of what you’ve done.

Unlike many other design books, there is no charge for you to submit your projects. All projects included in the book will receive full credit and a free copy of the book.

I’ve loved this hand lettered and whimsical logo for Holly Mathis for such a long time, isn’t it lovely? By the talented Minna May.


Obviously you don’t need to send me *all* the logos across but how gorgeous are these by the lovely Sara of Salted Ink?

Just send me one or two exquisitely designed logos – either as a JPEG or PDF file.

Hand lettering a logo, initial sketches or just the beautiful creative mess on your desk. Anything that shows the process of creating a brand identity – from hand lettering a logo to playing with colour. Portrait or landscape are fine. You will need to own a high resolution file although low resolution is fine for the purposes of submission.

I have hunted high and low for a credit for this image. Isn’t it stunning?

Obviously many of these sorts of images I can also style and shoot myself but many of you work in such inspirational spaces that it would be wonderful to feature some in the book. If you have a shot of you at work or your workspace (no faces – just either hands only or person-free – really not sure that’s a technical term but you know what I mean…) then I’d love to see it!

Submission guidelines

To submit please read the following guidelines. Failure to do so may result in your project being overlooked.

  1. You may submit a maximum of ten projects per company or freelancer so do choose your very best work.
  2. You must own the copyright to the design and if successful will need to have written permission from your client that it’s ok to use the work in the book. Please be aware of this before you submit.
  3. Please send low resolution PDFs or JPEGs at this stage to avoid giving my inbox complete overload! If successful I will advise you on how to supply the precise files.
  4. Please email book at fionahumberstone dot com by 1st December at the very latest.
